Kate McElroy in her practice is repurposing materials to capture and explore an ephemerality that is grounded in the reality of the everyday. These found materials are juxtaposed with unfocused images. Blurred photographs of indistinct layers personify the transient moment of their capture.

Materials that include glass, aluminium, and stainless steel, that possess an innate reflective quality, are layered and anchored with threaded rod to the walls. The materials still bear the marks and stains that allude to a former purpose. Now there is a new use-value; becoming something else. These layers mimic the photographic lens capturing the ambient reflections as well as the reflection of the viewer. Holding it for a fleeting moment, this time unrecorded, existing only for the moment of its happening.
The artist is attempting to contain a temporality that is personified by impermanence and change. A constant rotation that sees probability on the cusp of a transitory present dissolving into remembrance.
